Nature Quest: Birding Outing with Grand Prairie Bird Alliance
Nature Quest Birding Outing with Grand Prairie Bird Alliance
June 28, 2026
Meet at 8 am at the North Gate of ParkLands’ Merwin Nature Preserve.
Dr. Pirmin Nietlisbach, an ornithologist at Illinois State University and board member for the Grand Prairie Bird Alliance, will lead this exploratory bird outing. This outing is appropriate for all ages and skill levels. Members of the local Grand Prairie Bird Alliance will be available during the outing to give you tips, or participants can just walk along with us as we appreciate the birds. Bring binoculars if you have them. If not, we will have a few pairs available for you to borrow.
If you want to participate in ParkLands’ Nature Quest during this outing, please come with the iNaturalist and/or eBird app downloaded and we will show attendees how to use them. ParkLands members will be available to help those using the iNaturalist app. You may also want to bring a camera.
Please wear close-toed shoes and appropriate hiking attire. Bring water, sunscreen, and bug spray. There is a portable toilet at the entrance of the preserve for your use. The walk will include some hills and uneven terrain. The walk is estimated to last about 2 hours. Let’s find some birds!
This event is a free event. Registration is required.
