Volunteer

“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.” - Elizabeth Andrew

Nothing feels quite as good as working hard at work worth doing! Volunteers are an integral part of achieving our mission at ParkLands Foundation. Whether you are looking to learn more about natural areas, meet others who share your love of the outdoors, or make a difference in your community, there is an opportunity near you in McLean or Woodford Counties with ParkLands Foundation!

With only one full-time Land Steward to care for 3,600 acres across 21 properties in two counties, volunteers are at the core of ParkLands Foundation’s success. There are many ways to get involved with no experience required!

Workdays

Do you like to get your hands dirty?  Workdays are popular for groups both large and small; from individuals to groups of corporate employees, Scouts, retirees, and students. Workdays are scheduled throughout the year and are posted on our events calendar and social media pages.

Volunteer Land Steward

Unfortunately, we haven’t figured out how to clone Land Steward Jason Shoemaker!  He must often prioritize efforts to our most frequently used preserves or special projects.  This is where Volunteer Land Stewards come in.

Volunteers take “ownership” of a preserve through regular, periodic visits (i.e. monthly) to check-in on the property.  They might remove invasive vegetation, gather trash, or document needed maintenance.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

We can use all sort of help, contact us to let us know how you'd like to help. Open to everyone regardless of skills.
