DESCRIPTION:Nature Quest Birding Outing with Grand Prairie Bird Alliance\nJune 28\, 2026\nMeet at 8 am at the North Gate of ParkLands’ Merwin Nature Preserve. \nDr. Pirmin Nietlisbach\, an ornithologist at Illinois State University and board member for the Grand Prairie Bird Alliance\, will lead this exploratory bird outing. This outing is appropriate for all ages and skill levels. Members of the local Grand Prairie Bird Alliance will be available during the outing to give you tips\, or participants can just walk along with us as we appreciate the birds. Bring binoculars if you have them. If not\, we will have a few pairs available for you to borrow. \nIf you want to participate in ParkLands’ Nature Quest during this outing\, please come with the iNaturalist and/or eBird app downloaded and we will show attendees how to use them. ParkLands members will be available to help those using the iNaturalist app. You may also want to bring a camera. \nPlease wear close-toed shoes and appropriate hiking attire. Bring water\, sunscreen\, and bug spray. There is a portable toilet at the entrance of the preserve for your use. The walk will include some hills and uneven terrain. DESCRIPTION:Who would like to go for a bike ride by some beautiful restored prairie and woodlands along the Mackinaw River this summer?  ParkLands will be hosting our 9th annual bike ride on July 18\, 2026. Join us and support the ParkLands mission of preserving prairie and forest habitat along the Mackinaw making it one of the cleanest rivers in Illinois! \nWe will have a 20 and 50 mile route as well as a 100 kilometer ride. The ride will be supported with strategically placed rest stops along the routes. Early bird registration is $40 for the ride for members and $45 for non-members. With the help of local biologists\, search for and learn about mussels that thrive throughout the Mackinaw River — maybe some other creatures too! This popular program will sell out! Only 30 available slots. Don’t be left on the waiting list. Register today!\n– We will get wet in the river. Please wear water shoes or old sneakers and clothes that can get wet and muddy. Bring a towel\, change of clothes\, water bottle\, and sunscreen.\n– This program will take place at Letcher Basin near Secor\, IL. DESCRIPTION:Members of ParkLands Foundation are invited to the Annual Meeting of Members on Sunday\, September 13\, 2026. This is a free event with the option to purchase lunch ($20) or bring your own. \nOur ParkLands Lexington Preserve (2 Douglas Drive Lexington\, IL 61753) will be the site for an optional hike at 10:00 a.m. Experienced guides will lead and highlight important features of this preserve. Please wear appropriate outdoor attire for this hike. Further details and directions will be sent upon registration. \nAt 11:30 a.m.\, at the nearby Lexington Community Center\, 207 W Main St\, Lexington\, IL 61753\, attendees will have time to visit with various Committee Representatives to learn what these committees do and where to lend your skills. A Tony’s Taco Bar lunch ($20 payment at registration\, or bring your own) will take place starting at 12:00 p.m. and presentations will begin shortly thereafter. We’ll look back at the accomplishments of the past year and look ahead to our future. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 26th  9am-11:30am \nCome out to ParkLands Letcher Basin preserve and help lead stewards clip invasive teasel heads from the prairie! These seed heads are about to drop\, so we must get them out soon! Dress for outdoor working conditions (long pants\, covered ankles\, closed-toed shoes\, long sleeves recommended). Be sure to wear bug-spray\, sunscreen\, and bring a refillable water bottle. All tools and supplies will be provided\, if you do have your own gloves and garden clippers please bring them.
