If we have enough people\, we’ll have some folks work on the invasives around the wooden bridge. \nParticipants should wear long pants/sleeves\, work gloves\, suntan lotion/bug spray\, and bring a water bottle. Further details and directions will be sent upon registration. \nAt 11:30\, at the nearby Lexington Community Center\, 207 W Main St\, Lexington\, IL 61753\, attendees will have time to visit with various Committee Representatives to learn what these committees do and where to lend your skills. The eBird app can also be used for recording bird observations.\nPrizes will be awarded for most species observed in several categories. Visit our Nature Quest Webpage at parklandsfoundation.org/nature-quest for more information. \nTo register for the Nature Quest and be considered for a prize\, you must create a free iNaturalist account. To do that\, go to iNaturalist.org. Your iNaturalist username will need to be included in your ParkLands Foundation Nature Quest Registration form. SUMMARY:Nature Quest: Birding Outing with Grand Prairie Bird Alliance
DESCRIPTION:Nature Quest Birding Outing with Grand Prairie Bird Alliance\nJune 28\, 2026\nMeet at 8 am at the North Gate of ParkLands’ Merwin Nature Preserve. \nDr. Pirmin Nietlisbach\, an ornithologist at Illinois State University and board member for the Grand Prairie Bird Alliance\, will lead this exploratory bird outing. This outing is appropriate for all ages and skill levels. Members of the local Grand Prairie Bird Alliance will be available during the outing to give you tips\, or participants can just walk along with us as we appreciate the birds. Bring binoculars if you have them. If not\, we will have a few pairs available for you to borrow. \nIf you want to participate in ParkLands’ Nature Quest during this outing\, please come with the iNaturalist and/or eBird app downloaded and we will show attendees how to use them. ParkLands members will be available to help those using the iNaturalist app. You may also want to bring a camera. \nPlease wear close-toed shoes and appropriate hiking attire. Bring water\, sunscreen\, and bug spray. There is a portable toilet at the entrance of the preserve for your use. The walk will include some hills and uneven terrain.
